- In September agreement with Sonangol and BPA to set the price and conditions
by which Sonangol and BPA will assume 29.9% and 20%, respectively, of the
share capital of Banco Millennium Angola, as well as the price and conditions
by which Banco Millennium Angola will acquire a shareholding of 10% in the
share capital of BPA. This follows the strategic partnership agreement set
up in December 2007 and the agreements signed in May 2008
- Execution of the Retail Network Expansion Programme
- The conclusion, in April 2008, of Banco Comercial Português' rights
issue which amounted to Euro 1.3 billion. The rights issue strengthened the
Bank's capital levels and was more than 2 times oversubscribed
- A Covered Bonds issue, of Euro 1.0 billion, and a senior debt issue, of
Euro 1.25 billion, concluded in May 2008
- Notification of Order nº 31835-A/2008 issued by the secretary of State
for the Treasury and Finances, authorising the granting of a personal guarantee
by the Portuguese State securing the capital and interest obligations within
the scope of the 3 fixed-rate issue in the sum of up to Euro 1.5 billion,
under the Millennium bcp Euro Medium Term Notes Programme, which took place
on 12 January 2009
- Sale of 87,214,836 shares representing 9.69% of the share capital of Banco
BPI, S.A., to Santoro Financial Holdings, SGPS, S.A., a company incorporated
under Portuguese law. As a result of the execution of this agreement Banco
Comercial Português will no longer have a qualified holding in Banco
BPI, S.A.
- Millennium operation in Poland reached the historical mark of 1 million
active Retail customers
- Definition of a new vision and strategic priorities for the 2008-2010 period,
following the Bank's strategic programme review, in February 2008
- Changes in the Coordination Committees and Specialised Commissions that
report to the Executive Board of Directors. The current Coordination Committees
are: Retail; Private Banking and Asset Management; Corporate and Companies;
Banking Services; and European Businesses. The global coordination of operations
in Africa and in America is held directly by the Members of the Executive
Board of Directors of Millennium bcp responsible for those operations. The
responsibility for Investment Banking is not covered by the Coordination Committees,
as it has a specific governance model. The current Commissions are: Capital,
Assets and Liabilities Management Committee; Risk Commission; Pension Fund
Monitoring Commission; and Stakeholders Commission
- Announcement of the deliberation to resume the process of merger by incorporation
of Banco Millennium bcp Investimento, SA, into Banco Comercial Português,
S.A.
- Registration of the merge by incorporation of BCP Participações
Financeiras, SGPS, Sociedade Unipessoal, Lda, into Banco Comercial Português,
S.A.
- Conclusion of the 3rd, 4th and of the 5th editions of the Commercial Skills
Development Programmes, to encourage employee mobility from central services
to commercial areas
- Notification of charges received from the Portuguese Securities Market Commission
(CMVM) and from the Bank of Portugal concerning administrative offence proceedings
brought against it in respect of facts that occurred prior to 2008, particularly
with regard to alleged irregularities related with the financing of the acquisition
of shares issued by the Bank granted to companies headquartered in foreign
jurisdictions
- Millennium Investment Banking became a direct trading service provider in
the Amsterdam and Brussels Euronext markets
- Medium-term Credit Lines Supporting Internationalisation were made available
by Millennium bcp as per the Portugal-Angola Convention, with risk coverage
through Cosec;
- Agreement between Bank Millennium and AICEP to support Portuguese small
and medium size companies that aim to invest in Poland;
- Presentation by Millennium bcp and by ISA - Intelligent Sensing Anywhere,
a technology company of the "ISA - Millennium bcp award", for entrepreneurship
- Millennium Meetings in Coimbra, Leiria, Porto, Algarve and in Castelo Branco,
aiming to reinforce Millennium bcp's commitment to its customers, investors
and the society
- In December 2008, Fitch Ratings reaffirmed the long and short term ratings
on Banco Comercial Português, S.A., A+/F1, keeping the outlook stable
- In October 2008, Moody's re-affirmed the Banco Comercial Português,
S.A.'s "Aa3 longterm/ P-1 short-term" credit ratings and the "stable"
"outlook".
- In October 2008, Standard & Poor's affirmed rating of "A/A-1"
long-term and short-term on Banco Comercial Português, S.A. (Millennium
bcp), and revised its "outlook" to "negative" from "stable";
- Several awards and distinctions were granted to Millennium bcp, being worth
noting:
- Millennium bcp was named Best Foreign Exchange Bank in Portugal, by
the fourth year in a row, as Best Investment Bank in Portugal, as World's
Best Investment Bank in Portugal, by the fourth year in a row, by the

- Election of Millennium bcp as "Best Commercial Bank" in Portugal,
by Euromoney magazine
- Millennium bcp's website was elected "Best Consumer Internet Bank"

- Election for the 7th year in a row of the institutional site of Millennium

- APCE - Associação Portuguesa de Comunicação
de Empresa - award granted to Millennium bcp in the category of best "Management
Report", regarding the 2006 Annual Report and Accounts, for the second
consecutive year. In this field, Millennium bcp also won the "Great
Corporate Communication Award" in 2007
- Election of Millennium bcp and Médis, for the 4th consecutive
year, as "Excellence Brands" by Superbrands in its 2008 edition
- Recognition of Millennium bcp as one of the entities that has best
contributed to the integration of immigrants in Portuguese society, by

mortgage loans efficacy, recognising the quality of the service presented,
