Given their intermediary role in different economies, financial institutions hold a unique position with regard to sustainable development.

The concept sustainability embraces the economic, environmental and social spheres towards the creation of a scenario compatible with the company business continuity in a long term perspective.

Therefore, companies are encouraged to adopt new practices in regard to the relation "company-external environment", and to ensure that the actions of business today do not limit the range of economic, social and environmental options available in the future.

Within the scope of the agency theory the main concern is related to the existence of efficient mechanisms to guarantee the alignment between the company strategic goals and its stakeholders.

Millennium bcp corporate values include a explicit commitment to the generation of community benefits, socio-economic prosperity and transfer of skills and technology in their host communities. In addition and since its foundation Millennium bcp has given particular attention to its role as a socially responsible Institution, both through the promotion of vocational training and personal development of its staff and through the exercise of its social duties in the surrounding communities.

Millennium bcp set up a Foundation - Banco Comercial Português Foundation - which embodies the social responsibilities of Millennium bcp, reflecting concern that its activities in cultural, social, solidarity, education and health areas are coherent, specialised and effective.

BCP Foundation is then involved in two major areas - Culture and Solidarity. Within the scope of its incorporation, the various fields of intervention are clearly defined: in education, contributing to divulging the Portuguese language and culture, fostering scientific research & development, and in social solidarity, through support health care and welfare activity, projects and social actions in general or of humanitarian nature.

Products and Services

Millennium bcp has specific product lines designed for individuals that in normal conditions would not have access to credit lines, who name a viable project contributing for job creation or a micro-company, in the scope of BCP agreement with the National Association for Access to Credit. We also have designed specific products and services for students and young people, and pensioners.

Community Involvement

Culture

BCP Foundation supports and establishes patronage protocols in regards to patrimony and heritage recovery, promotion of musical, ballet and other cultural events, museums and exhibitions and art publications.

Research and Education

In the Education and Training areas the support is given through the attribution of scholarships, support to research activities in several areas and through the publication of specific thematic editions.

Social Solidarity

We support social and health actions (ex:social and health familiar support, family planning, acquisition of medical equipment), cooperation with the Official Portuguese Language African Countries (PALOP) in several areas either by working with world organizations such as UN Programs or directly with the beneficiary country.
